WWE Backlash PPV results.

For the second week in a row WWE presented a PPV event for the fans around the world. This time it was WWE Backlash which featured multiple title defenses and what WWE billed as the “Greatest wrestling match of all time.”

Edge and Randy Orton have nearly two decades of history together. History that culminated into the two men facing off at WWE Backlash in what the promotion has pushed as the greatest wrestling match of all time. Edge and Orton battled for nearly thirty minutes in a match that was widely praised for the action that they delivered.

Throughout this match, both Edge and Orton would dig deep into their move set to find a way to get the finish. Multiple RKOs, spears and nearly any other move created by a WWE legend was pulled out in this contest. The end came when Orton punted Edge’s head nearly off his shoulders, pouncing on him for the pin fall and the victory.

Drew McIntyre was set to face a major challenge in Bobby Lashley who wanted his WWE Championship. Even though Lashley got the jump on McIntyre before the bell would ring, he was unable to take that title from McIntyre. Lashley and MVP executed a very sound strategy until Lana came down to ringside. Her presence caused a miscue that McIntyre capitalized on, landing the Claymore to get the pin fall and keep his WWE Championship.

The Miz and Morrison may have debuted a new music video before their match with Braun Strowman, but it was not enough to take the WWE Universal title off the big man. Miz and Morrison had the numbers game and it took a minute for that to come into play as they were on the receiving end of a beating for majority of this match. The hitch in their teamwork came with the Miz halted Morrison from pinning Strowman which would have made him the solo Universal champion. That would spell the end as Strowman would hit the power slam and pin Morrison for the victory.

Asuka retains via count out

Asuka had to fight an uphill battle against the uber powerful Nia Jax. Both women landed several power moves on each other, but neither were able to do enough damage to secure the finish. The ending would come when Jax and Asuka would continue to battle outside the ring, neither of which getting back inside before the referee would get to ten, signaling a double-count out for both the challenger and the champion. Asuka did not get the win, but her title did not change hands due to the finish.

Sheamus has spent the last few weeks being a thorn in Jeff Hardy’s life. This culminated to the two individuals having a one on one match at Backlash. For much of the battle Sheamus was beating up on Hardy, but Hardy would not go away without a fight. He made the mistake of going to a high risk move which Sheamus countered. They would get back into the ring where Sheamus would hit another Brogue Kick to get his victory.

Sasha Banks and Bayley had to fend off two teams at once to keep their tag team titles, but they were able to do so at WWE Backlash. This was a chaotic matchup as three women were always involved in the action. That set up allowed for the finish after Alexa Bliss hit her Twisted Bliss on Peyton Royce. Before she could secure the pin fall, Banks would run back into the ring to roll up Bliss and get the count.

The night opened on the preshow with Apollo Crews defeating Andrade to retain the United States title. He and Andrade had a back and forth match for the most part. When Angel Garza attempted to get involved, Kevin Owens left the commentary booth and put a halt to his interference. The end came when Crews hit his sit-out powerbomb to secure the pin fall and keep the US title around his waist.

The champions walked into WWE Backlash with their titles around their waist and each one of them left the PPV with their title reigns intact. With new editions of Monday Night Raw, NXT and SmackDown coming this week there are several angles to continue forward coming out of WWE Backlash.
