Seahawks backfield takes a hit with serious-looking DeeJay Dallas injury
By Mark Powell
DeeJay Dallas’ injury could hurt the Seahawks in the long run.
Dallas has been a promising rookie for Seattle, contributing in the run game and special teams for the Hawks down the stretch run of their NFC West title race. Just one game prior to their test against the Los Angeles Rams for divisional supremacy, Dallas went down on a kick return.
Dallas was the Seahawks fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, accumulating just 108 yards on the ground. The Hawks’ backfield depth has been tested at points this year, when Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny were down due to injury. At the time, the answer was the likes of Dallas and Bo Scarbrough. Now with Penny and Carson back, plus Carlos Hyde in tow, the Seahawks can sustain an injury to Dallas a little better.
Seahawks getting healthy at the right time
Russell Wilson carried the Seahawks through a tough injury stretch in the middle of the 2020 season. While he’s not longer the MVP frontrunner, the passing game remains a strength of the Seahawks, who are willing to let Russ cook early and often if necessary. Some help would be appreciated, though, especially as the weather gets colder come playoff time.
This is where Carson and Penny come in. Pete Carroll raved about Penny, specifically, in his return from injury at practice. Assuming the pair can contribute equally to the run game, it’ll add another unforeseen factor to an already-credible Seahawks offense.
