J.J. Watt pours his heart out for fans in passionate 106-second sermon

The Houston Texans’ edge rusher poured his heart out to the fanbase following their Week 16 loss.

This year hasn’t gone the way the Houston Texans had envisioned. From trading away DeAndre Hopkins to firing head coach/general manager Bill O’Brien, everything has gone south for the AFC South squad. Things got even worse this Sunday, as the team lost 37-31 to the Cincinnati Bengals to fall to 4-11 on the season.

Following the loss, defensive end J.J. Watt poured his heart out to the Texans fanbase in an impassioned speech when asked about finishing the season. We’ll let Watt take it from here in the following 106-second clip.

Watt feels bad about letting down Texans fans

This is what Texans fans want to hear from their star player — being fed up about losing and feeling bad for the base that invests time, money and energy into cheering for them. Additionally, Watt calls out those on the team who don’t want to put in the effort and who don’t care about winning, saying those individuals “shouldn’t be here.”

The Texans were at least expected to compete for the AFC South this NFL season alongside the Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts, but that never came to pass. After an 0-4 start to the season, the team parted ways with O’Brien and replaced him with Romeo Crennel on an interim basis. Houston would win four of their next seven games with Crennel at the helm, before going on a four-game losing streak, including their loss to the Bengals.

To make matters that much more frustrating for Texans fans, the bad season is all for naught, as they don’t even hold a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. That selection belongs to the Miami Dolphins following the Laremy Tunsil trade that was orchestrated by O’Brien in 2019.

This lost season might hurt Texans fans, but it hurts Watt even more. He knows the fanbase deserves better than what they were given in 2020, and he showed it in this nearly two-minute rant.
