5 Chargers head coaching replacements for Anthony Lynn
Herbert is the future of the franchise and the key to competing in the AFC West. For that reason, Los Angeles needs someone who can work and develop quarterbacks.
If that’s the case, Arthur Smith should be out of the running. He’s never coached the position and chemistry between a quarterback and coach matters, right? Yes, but look at the two years working with Ryan Tannehill in Tennessee and discuss?
Once viewed as a bust, Tannehill has blossomed into a bonafide top-10 quarterback on all big boards. He’s nearly flawless in the passing game and his accuracy has tremendously improved. Oh, and let’s not forget Derrick Henry rushed for 2,000 yards this season and is the back-to-back rushing leader.
Smith actually got his start working with the offensive lines, an area Los Angeles needs to upgrade. A quarterback is only as good as his protection and there were moments the rookie signal-caller was running for his life.
Tannehill and Herbert have similar builds, but the kid has a better arm. If Smith gets the same production out of Herbert, it’s a big-time win long-term.
