Ranking the NFL head coaching vacancies for 2021

3. New York Jets
If Adam Gase didn’t ruin the season for gang green, they’d be much higher. Still, it’s not the worst job out there if Joe Douglas gives the next head coach time to replenish and rebuild in the AFC East.
The No. 2 pick could go a multitude of ways. Should whoever takes over like Sam Darnold, they can trade back for more picks. Mekhi Becton showed he’s the franchise left tackle, but the team could use an upgrade at every position on offense. Then again, New York could start fresh with a new quarterback and call it a day.
The Jets have plenty in cap space to make smart moves this offseason and add the right pieces. With two first-round picks over the next two seasons from Seattle, it’ll be about addressing long-term needs early.
New York will struggle due to Miami and Buffalo’s rise, but they could be a contender down the line.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars
One team has a sure-fire option at the most important position and the other doesn’t. That’s why Jacksonville will take the silver medal for 2021.
The Jaguars’ 15-game losing streak comes with the top price of the No. 1 pick. That means the next coach will have the option to claim perhaps all-time pro-ready quarterback Trevor Lawrence to fix the franchise. The good news for whoever is under center is Jacksonville has playmakers in No.1 target D.J. Chark, James Robinson, Laviska Shenault and others.
Jacksonville has more to offer than any team hiring a new HC and or GM. Jaguars have the No. 1 overall pick, 11 total picks, over $100 million in salary-cap space and strong ownership. NFL execs and coaches find the Jacksonville situation highly appealing.

Five of the first top 100 picks belong to Jacksonville. Not only that, Florida is a no income tax state, which is enticing both players and coaches alike. Add in the warm weather and little expectations early, what’s not to like?
1. Los Angeles Chargers
If you love offensive production, this is the team to beat. If you love defensive playmakers, this is the team to sign with. No matter how you look at it, Los Angeles is far and away the top spot.
Justin Herbert is set to be a top-10 quarterback and potential MVP for years to come. They have a sustainable offensive line when healthy that’s likely a piece or two away from being one of the better units. Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are perfect 1-2 combination while Hunter Henry’s return would complete the trifecta.
Justin Herbert's rookie season:

396 completions (most ever for a rookie)
4,336 passing yards (2nd more for a rookie)
31 passing TDs (most ever for a rookie)
5 rushing TDs
10 INTs

The Chargers cap space isn’t terrible and Tom Telesco could benefit from a few new faces. The team has a brand new facility, stadium and environment to have a successful future. Ultimately, Herbert is the selling point. He set a rookie record and has four years where you don’t have to pay him much.
