3 key Seattle Seahawks who likely won’t be brought back in 2021
Another offseason comes and the Seahawks are forced to part with another member of the famed “Legion of Boom.” K.J. Wright is still a solid starter for Seattle, but he’s no longer the disruptive force he was during his prime.
That’s why the Seahawks will let him leave, rather than overpay him to stay, this offseason. Wright will be coming off a deal that paid him $10 million in 2020. Seattle isn’t going to offer him anywhere near that kind of salary. It’s possible Wright can find another team willing to approach that figure on a short-term deal in free agency.
Remember, Seattle spent a first round pick on Jordyn Brooks in last year’s draft. He’s endured a lost rookie season, but the organization believes he can step in and be a starter in 2021. Brooks’ arrival goes a long way towards making an aging Wright expendable.
Expect Wright to be a popular free agent. He can serve as a solid starter on the field for a number of teams searching for help at linebacker. Perhaps more importantly, Wright can also be a terrific locker room leader for franchises in search of a veteran to help improve their culture.
Wright is going to get a solid salary in free agency, but it won’t be from the Seahawks. The team will continue its efforts to get younger and more athletic at the linebacker position.
