The Philadelphia Eagles could be entering the head coaching market should the let go of Doug Pederson.

Entering the offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles realized 2020 was a strange season. Hoping to build off their mistakes, the team elected to retain Doug Pederson following a 4-11-1 season.

That is for the time being.

According to a report by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the Eagles head coach could be fired in the coming days. This is in large part due to Eagles’ owner Jeff Lurie’s lack of confidence about Pederson’s vision going forward.

And no, this is far more than just what to do with Carson Wentz. Pederson holds an all-time record of 42-37.

Should the Eagles fire Pederson?

The up-and-down season of quarterback concerns now has Lurie wondering what to do. The team agreed to a massive extension with Wentz, but he struggled to work in Pederson’s system.

Meanwhile, rookie Jalen Hurts was benched in the final minutes of the season finale for what looked like a tanking job. Does this look like a coach ready to win? Even some of Pederson’s own players were surprised that he pulled Hurts, who clearly gave Philly the best chance to win against Washington.

Pederson is at risk of losing the locker room heading into a vital offseason. That’s not a great sign for ownership moving forward.

Pederson brought a title to Philadelphia back in 2018. Outside of that, he’s struggled to produce consistent results. If the team wants to move forward, Pederson likely will be looking for a job.
