Chiefs have injury issues beyond Patrick Mahomes to worry about
By John Buhler
Patrick Mahomes may be healthy enough to play, but the Kansas City Chiefs are beat up.
The Kansas City Chiefs should have starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes ready to play on Sunday vs. the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game after clearing concussion protocol, but his team could be without a few other key contributors in this clash of the titans.
Chiefs wide receiver Sammy Watkins, running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, running back Le’Veon Bell and cornerback Bashaud Breeland are all listed as questionable with varying injuries entering Sunday’s huge game vs. Buffalo. While it is better than having any of them listed as doubtful, there is no doubt over which team is healthier entering the 2020 AFC Championship game.
Should the Chiefs be worried about potentially being upset by the Bills?
Though any of the four remaining NFL teams are certainly capable or reaching Super Bowl 55 down in Tampa, we are more likely to see an upset in the AFC title bout than in the NFC. Kansas City has not covered a point spread in weeks and has not been blowing out teams like it had during last year’s championship run. Chiefs Kingdom better be ready for what Buffalo has been cooking.
Because we know that the moment will not be too big for Mahomes, this is the biggest reason why Kansas City should represent the AFC in Super Bowl 55. However, a banged-up roster, a head coach with notorious clock management issues and a franchise with a troubled playoff history at home, this could be a potential recipe for disaster at Arrowhead if the Chiefs are not careful.
Though Buffalo presents a great matchup on Sunday, Kansas City is too talented not to advance.
