Brock Holt

The Boston Red Sox just made a move to add former Dodgers utility man Kiké Hernandez. Joe Kelly compared him to Brock Holt in his leadership and abilities. Well, the Red Sox could, you know, also add Brock Holt.

Holt was terrible last season after signing a one-year deal with the Milwaukee Brewers. He was eventually designated for assignment, and he was picked up by the Washington Nationals. Holt ended up hitting .262 with the Nationals with 11 runs and 5 RBIs. It was a nice little bounce back after something was clearly wrong with the Brewers.

Despite the Red Sox already having Hernandez in tow, it’s not a bad thing to have multiple utility men, especially this season. In other sports, the COVID-19 pandemic has taken out multiple players, leaving teams shorthanded. Having two players like Holt and Hernandez actually gives the Red Sox an advantage.

Holt isn’t going to move the needle very much, but he’ll cost a minimum salary, plus he’ll give fans a jolt.
