While the St. Louis Cardinals are hoping to bring back Adam Wainwright, several other teams are interested in the righty.

With spring training right around the corner, free-agent hurler Adam Wainwright has yet to decide where he’ll be playing ball this upcoming season. The St. Louis Cardinals have made him an offer, and they’re hoping the veteran right-handed pitcher will return to the team.

However, other clubs out there are interested in acquiring his services as well. Per a report, the San Diego Padres have emerged as a new suitor for Wainwright and have extended him an offer as well. Could Wainwright be leaving St. Louis for the California sunshine?

The San Diego Padres have made pitcher Adam Wainwright a contract offer

The Padres sure have been busy in free agency in recent years and would love to bolster their starting rotation for 2021. Enter Wainwright. The 39-year-old pitcher has been with the Cardinals since 2005 and has been a stud for the team from his first campaign.

Wainwright has been to three All-Star Games and has won 167 games for St. Louis. Similar to Yadier Molina, he’s a legend in St. Louis and beloved by fans. However, both players have been mulling other offers this offseason, with Molina even saying he’d be open to retiring if the right contract doesn’t present itself.

In Wainwright’s case, he’s got several contract offers in front of him, but the Padres could be an intriguing landing spot. San Diego is expected to compete for a division title next season with the World Series-champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

While Wainwright himself loves St. Louis, if the Padres offer him a better contract, he very well could end up donning a new jersey this spring. Stay tuned to see where Wainwright lands, as a decision could be coming soon.
