WNBA free agency is ramping up and one of the league’s top free agents Chelsea Gray is on the move to the Las Vegas Aces.
This WNBA offseason has certainly been one for the books. We’ve already seen long-time Los Angeles Sparks superstar Candace Parker switch teams as she’s headed to the Chicago Sky to join their already loaded roster. While the Sparks were able to retain the highly-touted Nneka Ogwumike thanks to a core free agent designation, land Brittney Sykes, and re-sign Te’a Cooper, it looks like another Sparks superstar will be headed elsewhere.
One of the most coveted free agents this offseason, Chelsea Gray is headed to the Las Vegas Aces to help them contend for a WNBA Championship. Gray, at 28-years-old, is one of the league’s premier playmakers and is a huge pickup for Las Vegas.
What can Chelsea Gray do for the Las Vegas Aces?
Last year for the Sparks, Gray averaged 14 points per game on .479/.305/.939 shooting splits. A top point guard in the league, she had 5.3 assists per game and 1.5 steals.
The Aces will be attempting to return to the championship game after suffering a heartbreaking series loss to Sue Bird, Breanna Stewart, and the Seattle Storm. Gray ought to make a nice addition to the Aces roster, joining Angel McCoughtry, A’ja Wilson, and company on a squad slated to perform even better than they did last season. Gray joining the team is timely news after veteran point guard Kayla McBride announced that she would be leaving the team in free agency to join the Minnesota Lynx.
We’ll see if Chelsea Gray is the missing piece that will push the Aces over the top in 2021.
