3 teams that should trade for Gary Sanchez amid Yankees drama
By Scott Rogust
The Atlanta Braves are entering another season with the World Series window wide open. Sure, they might lose out on Marcell Ozuna to there being no universal designated hitter this upcoming season, but the team is still stacked enough to make a deep postseason run.
But why are the Braves in on this Sanchez list? Well, because they have no depth at the position.
Travis d’Arnaud turned into a solid signing by Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos last season. After an impressive 2019 campaign mostly spent with the Tampa Bay Rays, d’Arnaud was even better with Atlanta. Through 44 games, d’Arnaud slashed .321/.386/.533 with nine home runs and 34 RBI. d’Arnaud was even better behind home plate, as he posted a .990 fielding percentage (three errors on 296 defensive chances).
Behind d’Arnaud, there’s nobody listed on the team’s official depth chart. While there’s no designated hitter spot for Sanchez in the National League, he could thrive as a backup behind d’Arnaud or in pinch-hit situations. It’s quite possible taking a backseat could do him wonders, as there would be less pressure placed upon him. The Braves, looking to do whatever it takes to win their first World Series title since 1995, should at least consider this move.
