1. Patrick Mahomes is still improving

The idea that Mahomes is still on an upward trajectory as a quarterback is a frightening through for NFL defensive coordinators. That’s what 25-year-old quarterbacks do though. There’s a very strong chance that Mahomes isn’t done improving at the game’s most important position.

The former MVP connected on a shade over 66% of his passes during the regular-season, but there’s no reason he can’t push that number closer to 70% with some modest improvement in his decision-making.

Giving him some more easy throws would also help Mahomes get rid of the ball a little faster. Reducing the number of hits he takes during the regular-season should be a priority for Kansas City next year. This team should be entirely focused on making sure their star quarterback is 100% healthy when the playoffs roll around. That clearly wasn’t the case for Mahomes this season.

Like Reid, Mahomes is another member of the Chiefs organization who prides himself on innovation. He’ll spend a lot of time with the Super Bowl tape as well. Don’t be surprised if he finds a personal way to combat what Tampa Bay’s defense did to shackle him. Mahomes isn’t going to take another massive step forward in 2021, but some marginal gains will make him even more difficult for opponents to handle.
