The Las Vegas Raiders could be moving a quarterback this offseason, but it is more likely to be Marcus Mariota than Derek Carr.

Plenty of NFL teams have inquired about Las Vegas Raiders quarterbacks Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota this offseason, but only one of them could realistically be traded before the start of next football season.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that while the Raiders have fielded calls for both signal-callers, if one of them is going to be dealt, it would be Mariota. The logic behind this is Carr would cost too much. Another interesting wrinkle there is other NFL teams believe Mariota could be the next Ryan Tannehill, who was the guy who took his starting job with the Tennessee Titans in 2019.

Is Marcus Mariota ready to be an NFL starting quarterback again?

Coming out of college, Mariota was the easily the more coveted prospect. He won the Heisman Trophy with the Oregon Ducks, going No. 2 overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. Carr went to the Raiders in the second round in 2014 and is arguably the best quarterback of his draft class. Frankly, Carr should have gone in the first round, but being David Carr’s younger brother did scare NFL teams.

Ultimately, Mariota’s issues in Tennessee had more to do with health than anything. Though he lacked some of the dynamism Tannehill had, a lot of that probably had to do with Arthur Smith being such a fantastic offensive coordinator. Smith left Nashville to become the next head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. So is Mariota ready to be a starter again? Yes, as he does have a market.

Mariota is worth a quarterback-desperate team taking a chance on this offseason as a starter.
