Oregon. 54. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Safety. 46. Jevon Holland

In a perfect world, the Colts could fill their left tackle with a quality prospect in Round 2. Unfortunately, the board just doesn’t line up with solid value in that regard. That’s why the Colts will go with Holland who projects as the best player available at No. 54.

Scouts go back and forth about whether or not his future lies at cornerback or safety. The truth is that it really doesn’t matter. Holland is versatile enough to fill either role depending on the match-up. The best use of him is going to be as a cover safety at the next level.

The Colts are a smart organization that understands the value of flexibility in the secondary. Holland can be deployed as a nickel corner or free safety depending on the situation. His presence will give the defensive coaching staff a terrific ability to mask their looks with different personnel groupings.

Some Indianapolis fans will be screaming for tackle or quarterback at this point in the draft, but the team’s front office won’t be swayed by public sentiment. Adding a playmaker like Holland in Round 2 is a good fit for the team’s logical ethos.
