Baker Mayfield pays tribute to viral Browns fan after tragic death

Baker Mayfield celebrates the life of late Cleveland Browns fan Tom Seipel over Twitter.
One of the coolest moments of the 2020 NFL season involved Cleveland Browns fan Tom Seipel and his beloved team’s franchise quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Mayfield and his wife Emily were able to help Seipel see one last Browns game before he succumbed to kidney cancer. Seipel passed away over the weekend after his lengthy battle with the disease.
Mayfield took to Twitter on Saturday to share his sympathies to Seipel’s family for their loss. He made one of Seipel’s final days on earth simply unforgettable out of a charitable act of kindness. It was more proof of the power of sports being able to bring people together, even in the midst of a global pandemic.
Baker Mayfield turned a new leaf in his third year quarterbacking the Browns
The 2017 Heisman Trophy winner and No. 1 overall pick by the Browns in 2018 had a bumpy first two years in the league. He took the NFL by storm as a rookie, but regressed considerably in his sophomore season. With his future as an NFL starter on the line, Mayfield helped quarterback the Browns to their best season since 1994, winning a playoff game and playing in another in January.
While Seipel never got to see his beloved Browns make it to the Super Bowl, he did get to see his team finally play competent ball with great regularity before his passing. Mayfield is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Though he is expected to get the fifth-year option from the Browns organization this offseason, he did enough in year three to change his overall narrative.
This story between fan and quarterback lets us all know that Mayfield sees the bigger picture.
