Taking a speed guy like Tryon opens up the possibility that the Chiefs will double down on edge help in the draft by taking a more conventional defensive end. Sample has some pass-rushing skills of his own, but he also projects as an above-average run defender in the NFL.

He’s really going to be a handful for offensive lineman at the next level when he’s permitted to strike a clean blow with his hands. That’s when his power pops off the film. Sample doesn’t have a ton of counter-moves at this stage of his development but he wins more than his share of battles with the immediate strikes he delivers.

In many ways, his best-case outcome as a pro is to become the next Frank Clark. His lack of raw speed off the edge means he’ll struggle to ever become a consistent sack artist. Sample might be best suited to slide inside and pass-rush alongside Chris Jones on obvious passing downs.

Chiefs fans might not want to see two consecutive picks go to the edge, but it’s an area of intense need for Kansas City. Coming away with Tryon and Sample would be a big win for the team’s front office.
