Unfortunate news has arrived for the Minnesota Timberwolves with D’Angelo Russell set to miss at least a month following knee surgery.

Things just keep going from bad to worse for the struggling Minnesota Timberwolves. Through the team’s first 28 games of the campaign, Minnesota is 7-21 and sits at the very bottom of the Western Conference standings. Now, they’ll be without a key player for at least a month.

On Tuesday, it was announced that guard D’Angelo Russell will be undergoing knee surgery. Because of his injury, Russell will now be out of the lineup and off the hardwood for the next 4-6 weeks. It’s just brutal news for the Timberwolves.

D’Angelo Russell will miss 4-6 weeks for the Minnesota Timberwolves

A former No. 2 overall pick of the Los Angeles Lakers, Russell is in his second year with Minnesota and has been making plenty of plays for the team. Before going down with his injury, the lefty was averaging 19.3 points and 5.1 assists per game this year.

Last season, Russell finished the year pouring in 19.3. points per game, while adding 5.1 assists a night. When the team brought him in, they were hoping that pairing him alongside Karl-Anthony Towns would be able to help spark the group and get them in a competitive position out West.

However, Minnesota finished the year 19-45. Now, they’re just 7-21 and fans are losing any hope they had in the Timberwolves getting back to the postseason this spring. For Russell, he’ll look to rehab from his surgery and do everything he can to can back on the hardwood as soon as possible.

He’ll be out at least a month. We’ll see how Minnesota will be able to perform without him, but it could be a long stretch of more disappointment for fans without Russell in action.
