Scouting Report. Florida State. Asante Samuel Jr.. 37. 54. Pick Analysis. CB. player

The Eagles should address their need at cornerback with a familiar name in Round 2. Asante Samuel played some of the best football of his NFL career in Philadelphia and it’s possible that his son could do the very same thing.

The biggest criticism of Samuel’s game is that he lacks the size required to thrive on the outside. It’s true that he’s not going to be the biggest corner in the NFL, but that undersells his toughness and competitive nature. He’s got a strong chance to stick as an outside corner in the right scheme.

Even if he does need to move inside, that’s a full-time starting position in the modern NFL. Samuel has the fluid hips and explosion towards the ball that teams want from defensive backs tasked with stopping inside routes. His ball skills need work if he’s going to produce turnovers on a regular basis, but he can hold up against almost any opponent in man coverage.

That makes him a terrific value for the Eagles on Day 2. He may never blossom into a shutdown No. 1 corner, but he can provide Philadelphia’s secondary an instant boost as a rookie. Samuel would give the team great value at a position of intense need at 37.
