If the Houston Texans do make quarterback Deshaun Watson available for a trade, the Miami Dolphins are one of the teams who could be in the mix to land him.

While quarterback Deshaun Watson remains with the Houston Texans, one team who could be in line to trade for him, if he does become available, is the Miami Dolphins. They are one of the handful of teams who have been linked to him in a trade throughout this offseason.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports “the Dolphins expect to be in the mix to acquire Watson if the Texans make him available.” He added, “the Dolphins did not indicate what they believe their chances were or what they were willing to offer, but instead merely acknowledged the possibility of Miami acquiring him.” So what about last year’s first-round pick Tua Tagovailoa?

Deshaun Watson formally requesting a trade has piqued the Dolphins’ interest

Dolphins general manager Chris Grier had said previously that Tagovailoa was the team’s unquestioned starter entering the 2021 NFL season. However, this statement by Grier came before Watson made himself available for trade. Again, this is no slight on Tagovailoa, as the Dolphins are very high on him, but Miami may just be doing its due diligence here with Watson.

Other teams such as the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos have also inquired about Watson. So he does have a robust trade market, one far beyond strictly Miami. The Dolphins could send Houston Tagovailoa, the No. 3 overall pick they got by way of the Laremy Tunsil trade and maybe even their own pick at No. 18. In short, Miami has the assets to pull this huge trade off.

Houston may not want to deal Watson, but the Texans are inclined to do so before the NFL Draft.
