Without a doubt, the best way to replace Wentz, and Hurts, as the Eagles starting quarterback is through the draft. The Eagles are blessed to not only have the No. 6 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but there are four, maybe even five, signal-callers who could go inside of the top 10. Of all the college quarterbacks going in the first round, the one the Eagles should want is Justin Fields.

Fields is projected as the No. 2 quarterback by some prognosticators, behind Trevor Lawrence of Clemson and behind Zach Wilson of BYU for some. Lawrence is expected to go to the Jacksonville Jaguars at No. 1. If the New York Jets decide to punt on Sam Darnold, they will take either Fields or Wilson at No. 2. But between No. 3 and No. 6, only the Eagles may end up drafting a quarterback.

Fields is worth trading up to No. 3 with the Miami Dolphins, No. 4 with the Atlanta Falcons or No. 5 with Cincinnati Bengals. Those teams have Tua Tagovailoa, Matt Ryan and Joe Burrow under center, so unless Atlanta really wants to dump Matty Ice, the Dirty Birds will take best player available. Regardless, Philadelphia is in the position to move up without sacrificing everything.

What makes Fields the one quarterback the Eagles should draft in the first round if they do go in that direction is he could be the next Steve Young. Not only is he mobile, but Fields throws the ball with tremendous touch and anticipation. Simply put, he is already way more refined at moving the sticks vertically than Hurts. Fields presents a slight upgrade now, but one with a limitless future.

Overall, there are not a lot of definitively better options to choose from over Hurts if you are the Eagles. You are better off seeing what he can do in his first full year as the starter in 2021. However, there are quarterbacks out there worth making major moves to acquire. While signing Prescott, trading for Watson or drafting Fields are all possible, expect Hurts to start in Week 1.
