CB. San Francisco 49ers. Scouting Report. Richard Sherman. 1. player. 42. Pick Analysis

As reported by Fansided’s Matt Verderame, the Cardinals and Patrick Peterson are expected to part ways this offseason.

Low and behold, should Peterson walk, Sherman is a name that will hit the free market. Steve Keim will need to avoid having the former Legion of Boom member continue his NFC West tour with them for the 2021 season.

Sherman entered 2021 coming off a 2019 season in which he allowed just 227 receiving yards in coverage. Injuries and age prevented the 32-year-old from duplicating that same success, playing in a mere five games and recording just one turnover.

When looking at his instincts, Sherman has the tools to be a top-cover man in the NFL. His body though no longer can play the leading role. Even with free agency, Arizona still should be in line to draft a name with Byron Murphy Jr. being limited to the slot and the secondary allowing 26 touchdowns in coverage.

Sherman will likely follow a similar pattern to that of Darrell Revis by signing with contenders until he calls it quits. Arizona needs a true top cornerback. Sherman is better suited as a second or third option at this point in his career.
