Saints: NFL insider proposes Teddy Bridgewater reunion
By John Buhler
One NFL insider thinks Teddy Bridgewater could be traded back to the New Orleans Saints.
Trading within a division feels like blasphemy, but one NFL insider thinks Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater could be back with the New Orleans Saints in 2022.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network quote-tweeted Nick Underhill, who covers the Saints for NewOrleans.Football, with a very peculiar response. “A rare intradivision trade wouldn’t shock me. I know Teddy Bridgewater and the Saints still have mutual respect. Obviously would depend on what happens with Jameis Winston, too.” Could Bridgewater be heading back to the Saints?
Decisions must be made by the Panthers first on Teddy Bridgewater
There is no secret that the Saints are fond of Bridgewater. He filled in for an injured Drew Brees for five games in 2019, famously going 5-0 for the NFC South champions. Bridgewater was able to parlay this into a three-year, $63 million deal with the division rival Panthers. However, Carolina went 5-11 in 2020 and Matt Rhule’s team could be looking for a franchise quarterback at No. 8.
With Brees expected to retire this offseason, the Saints are in a state of quarterback flux not experienced in well over a decade. In line with what Rapoport tweeted, the Saints must figure out if they are bringing back Jameis Winston on a second contract. If they are not, then the Saints may look to trade for Bridgewater in a deal for the Panthers. Otherwise, it will be the Taysom Hill Show.
If a blockbuster intradivisional trade happens, it may involve Bridgewater going back to the Saints.
