Saints: This trade would send Russell Wilson to New Orleans

He has them on his list of preferred trade destinations, and here’s how the New Orleans Saints could actually get Russell Wilson.

The Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson seem headed for a divorce. He hasn’t necessarily asked for a trade, but his agent told ESPN’s Adam Schefter he’d waive his no-trade clause to go to four teams–the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Las Vegas Raiders and Chicago Bears. A couple others seem like potential fits, but it’s certainly an interesting list for a lot of different reasons. The idea of “I don’t want to be traded, but… I’d go here, here, here and here” is just enough to rile up those fanbases.

Focusing on the Saints, they are set to replace Drew Brees (assuming he indeed does retire). Taysom Hill has seemed like the anointed successor, and re-signing Jameis Winston is a possibility if he finds a cold market in free agency. With their well-known cap issues, the Saints won’t be ponying up big for anyone in free agency.

But trade possibilities do open up some options, even if it means parting with some notable names in said deal.

Here’s how the Saints could make a trade for Russell Wilson

Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports went way in on a Saints trade for Wilson, having them part with two first-round picks (2021, 2022), a second-rounder in 2022, DE Cameron Jordan, Hill and Ramczyk for Wilson, a 2022 fourth-rounder and a 2023 fifth-rounder. There are some combinations to work with, including OT Terron Armstead instead of Ramczyk, DL Malcom Brown as another piece going to Seattle, etc. But I don’t see the Saints parting with Jordan under any circumstance. Trading Hill would have to happen, and if nothing else Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll would have an ideal quarterback for his intention to run the ball heavily.

If only for this offseason, the Saints stand as a pretty unlikely landing spot for Wilson. But they could go all-in and make a blockbuster deal for him, if they wanted to.
