Pick Analysis. QB. Las Vegas Raiders. 2.. player. Scouting Report. Marcus Mariota. 28

If the Bears want to target another quarterback on the trading block, one name that should intrigue them is Marcus Mariota.

Like Winston, Mariota was a top-two selection in the 2015 NFL Draft. After his stint with the Tennessee Titans ended with him getting benched in favor of Ryan Tannehill, Mariota signed on with the Las Vegas Raiders. It made sense, considering head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock were huge fans of him coming out of Oregon. But, he was not brought in to be the starter. Rather, he was the backup to Derek Carr.

After Carr left Las Vegas’ Week 15 game against the rival Los Angeles Chargers with a groin injury, Mariota stepped in and showed the world what he was made of. Mariota completed 17-of-28 pass attempts for 226 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while rushing for 88 yards and a score on nine carries in the 30-27 overtime loss. That would be Mariota’s final game of the season, as Carr returned the following week.

This offseason, NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport indicated that Mariota was receiving ‘legitimate and real interest’ on the trading block. Rapoport followed up on this weeks later saying that teams are wary of taking on Mariota’s contract, as he could make over $20 million with incentives if he were to start. The Raiders could have no choice but to release Mariota from his deal if they receive no significant value in offers.

That news could be a blessing for the cap-strapped Bears.
