Saints reportedly looking to trade defensive tackle Malcom Brown
Could the New Orleans Saints end up trading defensive tackle Malcom Brown before the 2021 campaign arrives?
In what’s been a crazy offseason already in the NFL, you just know more big-time moves could be on the way. Well, take the New Orleans Saints for example. The team is over the cap and needs to get creative to get themselves back under.
In an attempt to potentially do that, Ian Rapaport of the NFL Network is reporting the team is looking into trading defensive tackle Malcom Brown. The 6-foot-2, 320-pound defensive lineman just wrapped up his second campaign in New Orleans. Could he end up leaving town in the near future?
The Saints are looking into trading defensive tackle Malcom Brown this offseason
Should New Orleans move forward in dealing Brown, they’d save right around $5 million against the salary cap. That’s no chunk of change to sneeze at, which is why the team very well could end up making a deal here.
Last season, Brown started 13 games for the Saints. The massive defensive tackle posted 27 total tackles and one sack. The year before, Brown started 16 games for New Orleans, recording 34 tackles and two sacks.
While Brown isn’t known for being a superstar player across the league, he’d certainly generate plenty of interest from organizations if he’s made available by New Orleans. You just can’t teach being 6-foot-2 and 320 pounds. His ability to plug holes in the middle of the trenches certainly stands out.
As the offseason progresses, look for New Orleans to keep making decisions to help them save some money heading into the 2021 campaign. While nothing appears to be imminent in this case, it looks like we could end up seeing Brown in a new uniform come next season.
