New York Jets mock draft – Second Round

Jayson Oweh. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 30. DE. Penn State. 34. player

The Jets could end up with one more second-round pick if they trade Sam Darnold, but for now, we’ll operate with just the 34th pick. Luckily for New York, they can use it to fill one of their biggest needs with Oweh, an edge rusher out of Penn State.

Edge rusher has been an issue for the Jets since the franchise traded John Abraham to the Atlanta Falcons in 2005. The team has made several attempts to fill the void, including notable draft busts Vernon Gholston and Quentin Coples, but nothing has really stuck.

Landing Oweh at the top of the second round would be a move that would really get Saleh fired up. Despite having no sacks for Penn State this season, Oweh has all the physical tools in place to become a dominant pass rusher at the NFL level.

Decent production in his first two years with the Nittany Lions and a strong performance in pre-draft workouts could push Oweh back into first-round consideration, so the Jets could have to trade up if they want to land him. At the moment, however, Oweh lands nicely on a team that has particular use for his set of skills.
