Titans trade first-round pick Isaiah Wilson to Dolphins

The Tennessee Titans traded 2020 first-round pick Isaiah Wilson to the Miami Dolphins after a tumultuous rookie season.

There are times when NFL teams take a massive swing and fall on their faces when it comes to the players they select. In desperate need for a right tackle, the Tennessee Titans drafted Isaiah Wilson out of Georgia with the 29th overall pick, and it turned out to bite them. One year later, Wilson is on a new team.

According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, the Titans have traded Wilson to the Miami Dolphins in a pick swap. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reports that the Titans are sending a 2022 seventh-round pick and Wilson to Miami in exchange for a 2021 seventh-round selection.

The trade will become official once Wilson passes his physical.

Titans: Team trades Isaiah Wilson in less than one year

After making a run to the AFC Championship Game, the Titans lost right tackle Jack Conklin in free agency after he signed with the Cleveland Browns. They decided to take a chance on Wilson, who comes from a college known for their strong offensive line play. Unfortunately, Wilson never gave the Titans the chance to put him on the field.

Wilson only played four snaps in his rookie season. He was placed on the COVID-19/reserve list twice in his rookie season and was involved in two off-field incidents. He was issued a trespassing warning by Tennessee State University police in August after they broke up an off-campus party. In September, Wilson was arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI). Wilson was placed on the non-football injury list in December shortly after serving a one-game suspension for violating team rules.

This offseason, general manager Jon Robinson said he had not spoken with Wilson since he placed him on the Non-Football Injury list. Most importantly, Robinson stressed that it was up to Wilson if he wanted to “do what it takes to play pro football.” Wilson gave his answer in a since-deleted tweet, saying he was done playing football as a Titan.

Now, Wilson is getting a second chance in Miami. Shortly after the trade report, NFL Network’s Peter Schrager noted that Dolphins head coach Brian Flores has known Wilson for years, as they are both graduates of Poly Prep High School in Brooklyn. If Wilson were to get on the right track in Miami, he could compete with Robert Hunt for the starting right tackle job.

While the Titans admit that they made a mistake in selecting Wilson, the Dolphins are hoping that he can bounce back in 2021.
