DraftKings THE PLAYERS Championship picks: $9,000 range

Justin Thomas, $9,900 – Despite how wildly strong he ended the 2020 season, Thomas’s results haven’t been exceptional early in 2021 to this point. There’s no denying his talent but his sometimes-erratic driver doesn’t fit will at THE PLAYERS — even if not having him could still bite you.

Bryson DeChambeau, $9,700 – Last week’s winner and the story of golf is underpriced because of when they were released so it’s hard to pass up the value. Having said that, DeChambeau’s irons and wedges come and go and that can hurt you in a big way at TPC Sawgrass.

Webb Simpson, $9,500 – What’s not to like about Webb Simpson? He won the event in 2018 and was top 20 on the bookend years of that. He also has two top-six finishes in his last three starts and loves a good Pete Dye course.

Collin Morikawa, $9,400 – This is technically the debut at THE PLAYERS for Morikawa but he did play the first round last year and was T7 after that. His iron game is arguably the best in the business, which should — in theory — set him up to play quite nicely at this course. He also won at The Concession the last time he played.

Viktor Hovland, $9,300 – Hovland was in the same position as Morkawa after the first round last year. His game from tee-to-green is one of the best on tour and he could possibly attack this place. The lack of experience might concern some but it hasn’t affected him or Morikawa much to this point.

Patrick Cantlay, $9,200 – For as well as Cantlay has played recently, his track record at TPC Sawgrass isn’t all that great. He missed the cut back in 2019 after top 25s in the previous two tournaments. That’s not overwhelming from a player of his caliber, even if his game should fit well.

Tony Finau, $9,100 – Similar to Cantlay, Finau has never finished better than T22 at THE PLAYERS Championship. However, his recent form has been unbelievably good as he seemingly can’t miss the top 10 or 15 — even if he can’t win. At this price on DraftKings, you have to give the big man a look.

Patrick Reed, $9,000 – The bottom of this $9,000 range shares a lot in common at this tournament as Reed hasn’t cracked the top 20 either. He lost strokes tee-to-green and missed the cut last week, though, which makes me concerned about paying this price.
