DraftKings picks for the massive THE PLAYERS Championship slate in PGA Tour DFS fantasy golf as the best golfers tee it up at TPC Sawgrass in 2021.
While not officially a major championship, THE PLAYERS Championship represents the biggest tournament on the PGA Tour schedule. And after last yearās tournament was canceled after the first round due to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, the best golfers in the world are back at TPC Sawgrass this week. So itās time to fire up your DraftKings PGA Tour fantasy golf lineups again.
There are several things to note when making your DraftKings picks for THE PLAYERS Championship. The first is that the pricing was released a couple of weeks prior to heading to TPC Sawgrass, unlike many other weeks for PGA Tour fantasy golf, meaning there is some value to be had with pricing.
Beyond that pricing, though, you have to look at what matters around TPC Sawgrass and THE PLAYERS Championship and the two most critical stats are Strokes Gained: Approach and driving accuracy. Those two things are key to success at this track. So thatās what weāre looking at when building our DraftKings lineup.
With that in mind, letās go through each DraftKings pricing tier and look at the best options available before constructing a number of lineups for THE PLAYERS Championship. (Note: Brooks Koepka is listed in the $10,000 range but withdrew due to an injury. Danny Willett is also out due to a positive COVID-19 test.)
DraftKings THE PLAYERS Championship picks: $10,000+
Dustin Johnson, $11,200 āĀ No golfer in the world has been better than Dustin Johnson over the last eight months. Moreover, he finished fifth in the 2019 PLAYERS, which was the best finish of his career. But considering heās the highest-priced player in the field, you have to ask yourself if you believe heās worth the price considering the value you can find elsewhere.
Jon Rahm, $10,900 ā By most accounts, Rahm shouldāve won THE PLAYERS back in 2019 but his final eight holes were a disaster that caused him to eject. Moreover, he has a round of 76 or higher in this tournament every time heās played. Though heās clearly one of the worldās best, that history plus his ongoing equipment change leave me wary at this price.
Rory McIlroy, $10,600 āĀ It feels as if Rory can fall out of bed right now and finish in the top 10. But Moreover, heās the reigning champion at TPC Sawgrass, winning in 2019. Heās the best overall driver of the golf ball on the PGA Tour but his irons and wedges have been inconsistent of late. Heās a risk but, again, itās Rory and it could pay off big time if he finds some form with his approach game.
Xander Schauffele, $10,300 āĀ On paper, Schauffele should fit Sawgrass perfectly. Thereās not a hole in his game, especially with some added length off the tee this season so far. He finished second in his debut here but missed the cut in 2019. With some erratic finishes overall this season, heās also risky but I like his stock, especially as a contrarian play.
