Chiefs rumors, Trent Williams
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON – NOVEMBER 01: Trent Williams #71 of the San Francisco 49ers looks on before their game against the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field on November 01, 2020 in Seattle, Washington. (Photo by Abbie Parr/Getty Images) /

1. Trent Williams

Williams generated a lot of headlines with his decision to sit out the entire 2019 campaign due to his dissatisfaction with his situation in Washington. His stellar performance for the 49ers in 2020 has him well-positioned to cash in with a lucrative contract via free agency.

The Chiefs should do everything within their power to bring him to Kansas City. He’d finally give Mahomes the sort of elite blindside blocker he needs to really feel comfortable sitting in the pocket.

The fact that Williams also excels as a powerful run blocker from his left tackle spot only adds to his potential value for the Chiefs. His ability to blast open holes on the edge might be even more impressive than his propensity to stymy edge rushers on the perimeter.

Predictably, Williams is going to head into free agency looking for a massive contract. It will be difficult for the Chiefs to manufacture the salary cap space required to meet his demands, but it’s a challenge the team’s front office needs to tackle head-on. Taking Williams away from San Francisco would be a massive offseason victory for the Chiefs.
