1. Who will round out the Yankees’ rotation?

Gerrit Cole, Corey Kluber and Jameson Taillon will start the season atop the Yankees’ rotation barring injury. That leaves two spots in Boone’s rotation up for grabs before Opening Day.

This battle likely boils down to three hurlers competing for two spots. Jordan Montgomery, Domingo German and Deivi Garcia all believe they should make the Opening Day roster as the team’s No. 4 or 5 starter.

Montgomery seems like a safe bet to lock down the No. 4 spot as the only southpaw at Boone’s disposal. He may not have ace stuff, but he profiles comfortably as a solid starter who can eat up innings throughout the regular season.

That leaves German and Garcia to battle it out for the No. 5 spot. Both guys have thrown the ball really well this spring. Garcia continues to build off his impressive rookie campaign. German has shown really good stuff after returning from last year’s suspension. He may have plenty of work to do to regain the trust of his teammates, but there’s no logical argument against how he’s pitched this Spring.

The Yankees might send German down to start the year to make a point, but he won’t stay in the minor leagues for long. This battle remains an open competition as Spring Training rolls around. It’s still a safe bet that both Garcia and German will make plenty of starts in the Bronx during the 2021 campaign.
