New York Yankees fans will be fired up knowing that star pitcher Luis Severino has just taken a big step in his return from his serious elbow injury.

Just like every winter, the New York Yankees are getting ready to enter the new campaign with World Series aspirations. In order for the historic team from the Bronx to get the job done, though, the rotation is going to have to stay healthy.

As you might expect, all eyes will be on the health of superstar pitcher Luis Severino. The hard-throwing righty missed the 2020 campaign after undergoing Tommy John Surgery and won’t be ready to rock on Opening Day. However, Severino is eyeing a late spring or early summer return. The latest update from spring training will only get fans more excited for that return.

Luis Severino looked sharp in his first time throwing off a mound since surgery

On Tuesday, Severino tossed a 20-pitch bullpen session off the mound, showcasing his head-turning fastball. Skipper Aaron Boone confirmed that Severino was able to take this next step in his return and you better believe he’s fired up about it.

“There’s just a confidence in that he’s kind of exuding in his health, just watching him play catch, the way his body is, the kind of shape he’s in and the free and easy way in which he’s throwing,” Boone said on Thursday via ESPN. “He was really efficient the other day, really kind of throwing it exactly where he wanted. He was coming out hot. We almost said, ‘Hey, back off a little bit. It’s coming out a little too well.’ And he wasn’t working for it necessarily. So really encouraged about where he’s at to this point.”

The Dominican hurler was no question heartbroken after suffering his serious elbow injury, but he’s been working tirelessly to get back to this position. Yankees fans can’t wait to see him in action this season. The same can’t be said for opposing hitters.
