As March Madness ramps up and Loyola continues to impress, some college basketball fans are wondering, ‘Who is Sister Jean?’.

If you’ve been following college basketball for the past few years, you may have heard the name ‘Sister Jean’ come up around the same time every year.

Over the past few days, she’s become a household name once again as the Loyola Ramblers have now busted their fair share of brackets, taking care of Georgia Tech in the first round and then upsetting the No. 1 seeded Illinois Fighting Illini in the second.

Still, there are some people who have no idea who she is. Here’s all you need to know about college basketball’s beloved Sister Jean.

The legend of Sister Jean

Sister Jean is the 101-year-old chaplain for the Loyola men’s basketball team. She has worked as the team chaplain for the Ramblers men’s basketball team since 1994.

She became an iconic sports figure during Loyola’s unexpected Final Four run in 2018. The eleventh-seeded Ramblers upset sixth-seeded Miami in the 2018 NCAA Tournament and she seemed to be their good luck charm.

Sister Jean became even more popular after the team upset 3-seed Tennessee in the Round of 32, advancing the Ramblers to their first Sweet 16 appearance in 33 years.

Now, Sister Jean is still proving to be an icon.

She’s endured countless COVID-19 tests to be in Indianapolis to see her team play and they haven’t disappointed.

She was in attendance for their first-round win over Georgia Tech and even led an incredibly prophetic prayer to help boost Loyola over 1-seed Illinois in the Round of 32.

Now we wait to see what the next chapter in the Sister Jean story will be.
