Chiefs free agency, Antonio Brown

2. Antonio Brown

Admittedly, Brown brings lots of potential off-the-field issues to the franchise that will sign him in free agency. That doesn’t change the reality that he was highly effective down the stretch for the Buccaneers a season ago.

He racked up 45 catches for 483 yards and four touchdowns in just nine games for Tampa Bay. Most interestingly, he posted a PFF grade of 85.8 during that stretch. That sort of grade indicates that Brown was one of the best wide receivers in football when he was on the field in 2020.

He’s no longer the exceptional deep threat he was back in his heyday with the Steelers, but he’s still got an exceptional ability to produce yards after the catch by breaking tackles in the open field. That makes him a potential nightmare for Chiefs opponents who are forced to double cover the likes of Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce on deeper routes.

The upside to Brown’s questionable off-the-field reputation is that he’s not in a position to garner a massive deal in free agency. He’s probably going to be forced to accept a one-year agreement that pays him a very modest salary. If the Chiefs believe Brown can work inside their locker room they should make a big move to sign him.
