Twins: Josh Donaldson couldn’t make it half an inning without getting hurt (Video)

Josh Donaldson’s injury issues in Minnesota continued on Opening Day, with a new leg ailment.

Donaldson registered the Twins’ first hit, and then immediately came up limp while rounding first base, grabbing the back of his leg in the process. The 35-year-old missed much of last season with calf injuries, and the new issue appears to be of a similar variety, though the Twins have yet to comment on the matter.

As the Twins’ highest-paid player, much of Minnesota’s offensive success depends on Donaldson’s health. Considering it’s Opening Day, it’s fair to say things haven’t gone according to plan so far.

The Twins are expected to compete for the AL Central crown

While much remains up in the air, the Twins and Chicago White Sox were deemed the preseason favorites for the Central. The Sox have not been shy about flaunting their hype, with Tim Anderson even going as far as to say they expect to be in the World Series this year.

Yet, a long-term injury to Eloy Jimenez is expected to keep him out 4-5 months, at the very least. That opens the door for a team like the Twins, who were floating under the radar.

Should they be without Donaldson at all this year, though, that brings their status as a contender into question as well.
