Dolphins predictions, Xavien Howard

3. Xavien Howard’s interception total will be cut in half

Howard was one of the best ballhawks in the NFL last season. His 10 interceptions were a big reason why the Dolphins managed to win that number of games. Unfortunately for Miami’s defense, he isn’t going to replicate that impressive feat in 2021.

None of that means Howard won’t play his cornerback position at a high level. He’s still an elite player who will grade out exceptionally in coverage. Opposing offenses are just going to stop throwing the ball in his direction so often.

Of course, that means they might have to target another outstanding corner like Byron Jones. It’s very likely his interceptions total will increase to offset anything Howard loses.

The one concern for Miami’s secondary is at the nickel spot. Noah Igbinoghene failed to seize it for his own as a rookie and now it looks as if Justin Coleman will get the job after inking with Miami in free agency. That could be the weak point of the Dolphins’ pass defense in 2021.
