Chiefs bold predictions, Travis Kelce

4. Travis Kelce will catch fewer than 80 passes

Kelce led the Chiefs with 105 catches last season but age is going to start catching up to him very soon. Being on the wrong side of 30 means that Kelce’s production is going to slip noticeably in 2021.

That doesn’t mean Kelce won’t be a highly effective tight end. He’s still going to catch enough passes to really trouble opposing defensive coordinators. This prediction just means that his time as Mahomes’ unquestioned go-to receiver is going to come to an end.

It also makes sense for the Chiefs to try to decrease his regular season workload. Keeping Kelce fresh for what the franchise hopes is a lengthy postseason run should be a top priority. That might even mean sitting him out for a game or two down the stretch.

The end result is that Kelce’s individual statistics are going to take a considerable dip. He will still produce over 1,000 yards receiving but he won’t get anywhere near triple-digit catches. 80 grabs for 1,000 yards feels right for the Pro Bowl tight end.
