42. Pick Analysis. CB. Georgia. Eric Stokes . 43. player. Scouting Report

People might forget that the 49ers will also be replacing more than Robert Saleh on the defensive side of the ball. Richard Sherman isn’t expected to return after three seasons as the No.1 corner. Ahkello Witherspoon also left in free agency for Seattle.

Can Jason Verrett prove he’s healthy enough to be a No.1 cornerback? If not, a young star like Stokes should be a prime pick at No. 43.

Stokes was best used when playing on the outside as the main cover man for the Georgia Bulldogs. He performs well best in press lockdown sets but isn’t afraid to play in more zone coverages as well.

Although Stokes can be a little grabby when it comes to matching one on one coverages, his upside coming out of Athens makes him a physical defender that has that No. 1 mentality. He’ll be a nice piece for new defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans to build around.
