3 reasons Patrick Mahomes will win 2021 NFL MVP in runaway
Free agency and the draft will fix holes
Patrick Mahomes is blessed with a load of pure talent and a franchise committed to getting the most out of him. Count on the Chiefs to do what needs to be done to aid his MVP pursuit.
This offseason, Kansas City had some work to do rebuilding the offensive line charged with protecting Mahomes and they’ve ticked most of the boxes.
The Chiefs added Joe Thuney, Kyle Long and Austin Blythe to beef up the interior while re-signing tackle Mike Remmers and Andrew Wylie. They’ll also get 2020 third-rounder Lucas Niang and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif back from opt-out.
There’s still a huge gap to fill at left tackle following the release of Eric Fisher, but the line as a whole looks upgraded. Fisher may even come back when all is said and done.
The draft should complete the puzzle, whether KC goes with an offensive tackle in the first round or reserves that spot for a wide receiver to replace Sammy Watkins.
Despite letting Watkins walk, Mahomes should still have plenty of talent to throw to this year. Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson return along with tight end Travis Kelce.
Mahomes will continue to operate in an offense built for success at all levels.
