Saints predictions, Drew Brees
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – JANUARY 10: Drew Brees #9 of the New Orleans Saints celebrates a touchdown scored by Alvin Kamara #41 (not pictured) against the Chicago Bears during the fourth quarter in the NFC Wild Card Playoff game at Mercedes Benz Superdome on January 10, 2021 in New Orleans, Louisiana. 1. Drew Brees will come out of retirement

Brees doesn’t seem like a guy who is going to stay away from football for very long. Look for him to cut his retirement short to return to the Saints in 2021. He won’t be taking the field as the team’s quarterback again. Instead, he’ll join Payton’s coaching staff as an offensive assistant of some kind.

It’s a natural fit for one of the most cerebral quarterbacks the league has ever seen. No one understands the intricacies of Payton’s offense as well as Brees. He can really help the quarterbacks left on New Orleans’ roster as a mentor on the sidelines.

The boldness of this prediction is that Brees will want to jump back into the NFL so soon after his retirement. It would be understandable if he wants to take a season or two off to spend time with his family. The bet here is that Brees’ love for the game burns too hot to allow him that kind of rest and respite.

Whispers of Brees returning to the field will pop up here and there in 2021, but his playing days are genuinely over. Saints fans should be on the lookout for his return, but only as a coach. That’s how he can help the franchise for years to come.
