5 bold predictions for Dallas Cowboys in 2021
2. Prescott makes a run at MVP
It is only fitting that the last slide bleeds into this one. Branching off the offense, as discussed in slide three, this one examines how Prescott could and should make a legitimate MVP run in 2021.
Most might read this and roll their eyes because, for some reason, there still is this convoluted stigma surrounding Prescott’s abilities as an NFL quarterback. Some still refuse to admit he is one of the best in the league.
Some of that refrain of admission is warranted for sure. Prescott had a great rookie year, then two seasons where he seemed to be more of a game-manager than a game-changer at times. Although that shifted in 2019 when he made it very apparent he was not just a passenger. He was, in fact, driving the ship.
Last year made this evidence even more undeniable. Prescott was probably on his way to knocking on the door of MVP consideration before he got hurt. When he went down, an offense packed with talent looked flat at times. With him, this unit looked ready to enter the upper echelon of offenses in the NFL.
Yes, Prescott is returning from a significant injury. It may take him some time to get back into game speed, and surely the Cowboys will use him more conservatively to avoid future injuries like the one he sustained. But, even then, with a new contract and the play he demonstrated last year, the idea he can compete for an MVP should not be that astronomical.
Dallas will have to fight through a tough schedule in 2021. If Prescott puts up the numbers he was on pace to accumulate last year, and Dallas is one of the best teams in the NFL with that schedule in mind, there is little way to deny he would by default be in the MVP conversation.
