2. Justin Fields falls

No, the Cowboys don’t have a reason to take Justin Fields at No. 10, but many other teams do. Dallas can take advantage of that.

If Fields is still on the board by the time the pick comes around, the Cowboys could trade back.

The Eagles, Vikings and Patriots could all be trade partners looking to grab a quarterback like Fields if the opportunity arises. Trading back with one of those teams would still allow Dallas to get a cornerback who fills their needs. Chances are Surtain or Horn will be waiting.

Even the Bears at 20th could make for an intriguing trade, though the cost of going back that far would potentially rise.

Cornerback isn’t the Cowboys’ only need and they could find a valuable edge rusher to help the defense in the teens if the DBs got scooped up.

This doesn’t have to apply only to Fields or even another quarterback like Trey Lance. Maybe it’s Penei Sewell, Rashawn Slater, Jaylen Waddle or someone else sliding. Perhaps a rival of the Giants wants to jump ahead to get the guy they want.

If the Cowboys don’t have their ears open for these opportunities, they’re doing it wrong.
