Scouting Report. 1. 108. Pick Analysis. Shortstop. Trade Value: A. Trevor Story. player

Trevor Story is set to hit the open market next offseason in what will be a loaded shortstop class. While some Rockies fans may be holding out hope Story stays, it would be a surprise if he even wants to sign a deal in Colorado given the interest that should be there from contending teams.

The Rockies had the potential to build a dominant core with Story and Arenado right in the middle. Instead, they will look to build a new core around new prospects.

Story debuted in 2016 and has already made two All-Star Games. He is an everyday player with a 23.0 WAR early in his career who is set for a massive payday thanks to Francisco Lindor boosting up the market this year.

Even with Bridich gone, the Rockies are going to have a tough time signing stars if they think they will just get the Arenado treatment. Trade rumors surrounding him soon after he signed his new deal that was meant to make him a Rockie for life.

The Rockies can end the drama now and trade Story early in the season when his value remains as high as possible. Fans won’t be happy, but it is better than letting him walk for nothing.
