The Vikings should have several quarterbacks on their draft radar as potential replacements for Kirk Cousins.

The Minnesota Vikings are stuck with Kirk Cousins for at least two more seasons. He received an extension in 2020 and has a nice big cap hit of $45 million in 2022.

But it is never too early to begin thinking about potential replacements. The Vikings having a timetable on Cousins, barring some sort of MVP season, means the team can use a mid-round pick on a quarterback who can develop behind the veteran.

There should be a huge run on quarterbacks early in Thursday’s first round. After that, the Vikings can look at three prospects in particular as potential quarterbacks of the future.

3. Kyle Trask

Projections show Kyle Trask being drafted all over. A team could get greedy and take him late in the first round, or he could slide into the second or third.

The Vikings have two picks in the third round at No. 78 and No. 90 overall. Trask sliding that far would be a surprise, but it is possible. If he does he would be a great pick for Minnesota.

The 6-foot-5 signal-caller went off in 2020 with 4,283 yards and 43 touchdowns. He stands out as potentially the next quarterback to be taken after the initial run early in the first round.

Snagging someone like Trask after the first round makes this a low-risk move. If he looks great behind Cousins, the Vikings have their quarterback of the future. If he does not, it’s not like they committed first-round money to him.

Trask sliding into the third round is the key to this possibility. But no one truly knows what teams are thinking and his stock may be inflated because of rumors.
