2. D.K. Metcalf will go over 1,750 receiving yards

Plenty of NFL observers will project a sort of consolidation season for Metcalf after his breakout 2020 campaign. That kind of modest projection underestimates his freakish athletic gifts.

The call here is that he’s going to build on his breakout campaign. There’s no reason to think his production won’t increase as he further refines his route-running ability. He’s never going to become Jerry Rice on intermediate throws, but he can improve his ability to create separation on route patterns as he gains experience.

The former Ole Miss star led Seattle with 1,303 receiving yards last year, but he’s going to blow past that total in 2021. He’s got a chance to post a 2,000-yard campaign, but a more reasonable expectation is for Metcalf to post over 1,750 yards if he can stay healthy for a full 17-game season.

This prediction also prices in a little bit of age-related regression for Lockett. He’s not going to suddenly fall off a cliff as a player, but he’s clearly the No. 2 guy in Seattle now. That’s not a knock on his talent, it’s just a statement of fact due to Metcalf’s brilliance.
