If there is one thing that general manager Rick Spielman can be commended on, it was how he drastically improved the offensive line. Not only did the team trade down nine spots in the first-round and still land Virginia Tech tackle Christian Darrisaw, but they also landed Ohio State guard Wyatt Davis in the third.

Davis is projected to be an immediate starter at the NFL level, and the dream scenario would be for him and Darrisaw to fortify the left side of the line of scrimmage. With that, that could spell the end for veteran guard Dakota Dozier.

Dozier had spent the past two seasons with the Vikings, but the 2020 campaign was far from perfect. According to Pro Football Focus, Dozier had committed nine penalties and surrendered six sacks on 1,083 offensive snaps.

As long as Davis is healthy and performs like he did at Ohio State through training camp, he will likely become the Day 1 starting guard. If that is the case, that could send Dozier packing. Dozier did recently sign a one-year contract worth around $1.08 million, but he accounts for no dead money if he is released before or after June 1, and helps the Vikings free up $850,00 in cap space, per Spotrac.
