2022 NFL Draft: Spencer Rattler, Sam Howell and the top 5 quarterbacks, ranked
By John Buhler
Sam Howell could be the first Heisman Trophy winner in the history of UNC
Sam Howell is one of two sure-fire A prospects at the quarterback position. Along with D.J. Uiagalelei at Clemson, D’Eriq King at Miami and maybe Phil Jurkovec at Boston College, Howell is among the best quarterbacks the ACC will offer this year.
Because UNC does not have the on-field talent of Clemson, getting to the ACC Championship game out of the Coastal with one or fewer losses should be enough to get Howell to the Heisman Trophy ceremony. Howell has embodied everything that is great from a Mack Brown-coached player. It will take a major regression for Howell not to be a top-10 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Spencer Rattler faces massive expectations in his third season at Oklahoma
The early favorite to win the Heisman Trophy and go No. 1 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft is Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Spencer Rattler. He will play for a team that can win a national title this year. Rattler caught fire in Lincoln Riley’s offense as the season progressed a season ago. Now in his second season at the helm, look for him to do incredible things for the 2021 Sooners.
Rattler is the five-star, blue-chipper worthy of being the No. 1 overall pick like Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and Sam Bradford were before him out of Oklahoma. Though still a tad raw, he will have had enough starts through his redshirt sophomore year to make him a serious candidate to be the top pick in the upcoming draft. If Rattler leads the Sooners to the College Football Playoff and is a Heisman Trophy finalist, he should be a lock as a top-three pick in 2022.
Here is to the upcoming college football season giving us as many great quarterbacks as possible.
