3 free agents Packers can still sign this offseason
By Scott Rogust
The Packers find themselves in a dilemma. Despite reports that Rodgers wants a trade off the team, Gutekunst has publicly stated that he has no desire to make a move at quarterback. That could make for a messy situation, but the general manager could appease the reigning NFL MVP by signing a veteran pass-catcher.
Of course, we are talking about Larry Fitzgerald.
The longtime Arizona Cardinal has not re-signed with the team, which appears to have moved on from him altogether. This offseason, the Cardinals signed A.J. Green in free agency and drafted Purdue receiver Rondale Moore. That all but spelled the end of Fitzgerald’s time in Arizona. While retirement could be on the table, how about the Packers give him a call to make a run at a Super Bowl?
This past season, Fitzgerald’s production took a hit following the Cardinals’ addition of DeAndre Hopkins. Through 13 games, Fitzgerald tallied 54 receptions for 403 yards and one touchdown. Those are numbers we are not used to seeing from the 11-time Pro Bowler.
While Rodgers did overachieve last season with relatively no changes made to the receiving corps, you would think he would like to get some help in that department. Look at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who gave Tom Brady every pass-catching weapon available to him, which helped the organization win their first Lombardi Trophy in nearly 20 years.
If the Packers want to get over the hump and bring Rodgers to the Super Bowl, then they should consider signing Fitzgerald.
