Rombauer won the 2021 Preakness Stakes and will take home a $600,000 purse after it pushed past favorite Medina Spirit.

The 2021 Preakness Stakes took place at its usual time of the year, following the Kentucky Derby, which was won by Medina Spirit. Everyone tuning in was wondering if Medina Spirit would win the second leg of the Triple Crown. That was not the case.

On Saturday, Rombauer out of the sixth gate won the 2021 Preakness Stakes, while Midnight Bourbon, Medina Spirit and Keepmeinmind finished in second, third and fourth, respectively. As a result of the win, Rombauer takes home $600,000 of the $1 million purse of the Preakness.

What were the exacta, trifecta and superfecta payouts for the 2021 Preakness Stakes?

Rombauer entered the race with 11-1 odds of winning the Preakness, so those who bet on the horse out of the sixth gate are getting a pretty good payout. As for those of you who placed money on the correct exacta (first through second), trifecta (first through third) or superfecta (first through fourth), here is what you will win, courtesy of NBC Sports:

  • $2.00 Exacta: 6-5 = $98.60
  • $1.00 Trifecta: 6-5-3 = $162.70
  • $1.00 Superfecta: 6-5-3-2 = $1,025.50

For the majority of the race, it was Medina Spirit maintaining the lead. But as the race progressed, the Bob Baffert-trained horse appeared to run out of gas, allowing Midnight Bourbon to make it wire-to-wire. But then, Rombauer appeared from out of nowhere to take a lengthy lead in the final stretch to win the Preakness.

For those of you lucky individuals to bet on Rombauer, congratulations on what is no doubt a happy Saturday for you all.
